Song Of The Day | Real Estate - “Beach Comber”
The revival of surfer/garage rock may be swiftly approaching saturation point, as a brief listen to the selection of acts playing SXSW right now will demonstrate, but there are gems out there. Real Estate are down in Austin right now, and instead of channeling The Jesus Mary Chain and ennui soaked in surf rock riffs, or simply cranking the reverb up to the moon, this New Jersey band takes a more languid approach. Many of their ‘jammier’ tracks will elicit more visions of Topanga Canyon rather than Malibu (think Luke Top). This dulcet number is from their November 2009 self-titled album (Underwater Peoples), and it obviously has a seaside-themed title.
