Die Antwoord…I…they… *shrug*…

Okay…. So as near as I can tell, Die Antwoord (‘The Answer’) found fame in one of two ways: 1)Through a die hard belief that they were actually put on this earth with the unique and specified task of spreading ZEF kulture to all of us puritanical americans who quake in light of their oh-so-very-far-from-politically correct lyrics or 2) They watched 8-mile with AQUA’s ‘barbie girl’ playing on repeat for the entire film, until….LIGHTBULB!

Though I’ll admit I’m becoming more and more convinced that these three are just far smarter than the bloggers that have been spreading their $3 beatz around the internet like ringworm at a tickling convention (myself included), I guess one has to come to their own conclusions about Die Antwoord, but here’s a little food for thought…

R.I.P Jay Reatard

How come I always have to be the first of our little collective to find out about the deaths of our favorite artists? First Natasha Snyder, now Jay…

Well, yes, It has been confirmed: Jimmy Lee Lindsey (aka Jay Reatard) has been found dead in his memphis home.  The kid who quite literally exploded onto the scene mere months ago, and who was the catalyst and/or victim of a wealth of drama in his all too short time in the spotlight, has now left us.  He was 29

Thanks for the art, Jay…

Song Of The Day: Will Oldham (Bonnie “Prince” Billy)- “The Seedling”

Will Oldham is like an ant hill.  You look at that kind face, that gentle (but oh so glorious) moustache, that proudly donned beer pudge, and you might not see much to it.  Though just beneath the surface is lies a wildly twisted mess of complications, thoughts, and emotions.  “The Seedling” is not a new song, its not even incredibly representative of Oldham’s style. However, if  you can manage to get through this song without at least a grimace at the desperation and quavering hoplessness betrayed by Oldham’s voice, then I have honest concerns about your ability to empathize…

However, if you’d rather see the brighter side of Bonnie “Prince” Billy (chemically-induced as it may be) then I can certainly recommend that you check out Tripping with Caveh a 2 hour chronicling of Billy’s Psychotropic mushroom experience with filmmaker Caveh Zahedi. Then ask yourself “do you ever speak directly to either the moon or sun?”….
