Song Of The Day: White Rabbits - Percussion Gun
The lead track from White Rabbits’ It’s Frightening their second release for TBD records. The band comes to us from Missouri by way of Brooklyn (where else) and was formed by frontmen Greg Roberts and Stephen Patterson in 2004. The sextet released their debut Fort Nightly in 2007 to critical acclaim and have since toured with the likes of The Walkmen, Spoon, and The Kaiser Chiefs.
This track grabbed me because it is hooky and pop sensible but in a very unconventional way, primarily because of how abstracted the backing rhythms are. It put me very much in mind of New Orleans based indie heroes My Name Is John Michael, with whom it is never a bad thing to be favorably compared.
